Frigidaire Professional Panini Grill

Not very impressive for the price
I've had a couple of countertop grills like this one, and unfortunately this one is far from my favorite. Before this, I had the Cuisinart GR-4N, which I really liked a lot better. I'll break it down into the components that I felt were important.

Size: This Frigidaire definitely has a large cooking surface, which is both a blessing and a curse. At first I was glad because we often like to grill extra long pieces of fish, or have a lot of smaller items that needed to be arranged like puzzle pieces on the Cuisinart. Unfortunately, it didn't occur to me that an extra-large grill also requires extra-large counter space. We grill several times a week so I prefer to keep it on the counter, and this just takes up a ton of space. While in use, there isn't much room next to it for food prep or service, and it has to be pulled completely out from under the cupboards to open all the way because otherwise it bangs into them (the hinge is not built to stay open unless the top grill...

Improvements over Cuisinart Griddler, but hotter grilling needed
PROS - even heat distribution, sensible controls, height selector
CONS - slow meat grilling, no waffle plates, some rear drippage possible

This grill / griddle functions much better than the similar appearing Cuisinart Griddler. Unlike the Griddler, with this Frigidaire Grill / Griddle:
- Heat distribution is very even (according to the giant hash brown test).
- Each grill surface can be controlled independently or in unison, so if you only want to heat one side, you can.
- The top has an optional height settings (so that it can be set to not press food too hard).
- The drip pan is easy to slide in and out.
- It can be locked shut for storage (but it would be nice if it rested level on any side, so it could be shelved like a book).

The main problem is that it is a little weak for sizzling and grilling meat, though it cooks other foods great. When set to high temperatures, it takes 8-11 minutes of preheating the open bottom griddle...

Frigidaire Grill - Great!!!
I bought this grill because it looked profesional and well designed. The famous George Forman grill is just that, well known but it is not well designed. The Frigidaire grill is easy to use and has many different uses. Ex. It will cook burgers evenly without burning them in about ten minutes. It is super easy to clean because the plates pop out. Buy it and you will not be disappointed.
